Thoughts: Are You Investing Wisely?

Unfortunately, most of us spend the coin of heaven – and morning, noon, and night we live in negative states for which there’s no return – when we could easily not have spent, but invested that moment, so at the end of the day we really would have a wonderful portfolio. – Neville Goddard
We are not talking financial investment here, we are talking about your investment in thoughts. Neville compared the thoughts that we let wondering in our heads all throughout the day to investment because the thoughts that we are entertaining today (investing in today) will shape our tomorrow, just like return on investment. Ultimately, our thoughts are creating the state that we’re living from.
If I spend most of my waking hours thinking about the unwanted and the undesirable, this is an investment in thoughts that will result in some pretty negative interests. Since our life is nothing more than the reflection of our thoughts, we must become aware of what we are thinking about on a day to day, and even from hour to hour to minutes.
Granted, it is impossible for any of us to control every single thought, considering that according to experts, we have between 60,000 to 70,000 thoughts per day (almost a thought per second), but it is possible to learn to control our main thoughts and our daily thought patterns. True, at first it won’t feel natural or even comfortable to do so, because if you have had a life of uncontrolled wild negative thoughts of fears and doubts it’s going to feel strange and a bit tough at first to think positive thoughts, but if you want to change and transform your life it’s a must.
Albert Einstein said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. This is most definitely one of his most popular quotes for the simple reason that we all know that it is true. If you have been thinking a certain way most of your life, the proof of your thinking pattern can be seen in the quality of your life right now. The two will always match. If you want your life experience to be different, however, you must start thinking differently.
If you do not like the quality of your life right now, if you want more money, if you want a better job, if you want a slimmer body, if you want better health, and if you want your dream relationship…, the first thing that you need to do is to check your thought pattern about it. Do your thoughts agree with your desire or do they agree with the lack of it? It is not uncommon that I hear some of my coaching clients say that they want something, but in the same breath saying something that reveals that they are thinking something totally opposite to what they want.
Why do you do this? Because you have not learned to control your thoughts, yet.
The first step to manifest your desire, no matter what it is, is to agree with it in thoughts. Your mental diet is made up of the recurring thoughts that you have on a daily basis, and which in turn, create your life.
What Leads to a Low Self-Concept
Neville said that every moment in time we are either spending or investing in thoughts. Every moment that you are wasting by entertaining unwanted thoughts, you are spending, you are squandering your thoughts unwisely. However, every moment that you make the effort to control the thought, to change the thought, to shift from one negative thought to a positive one, you are investing in your new portfolio. As Neville says, at the end of the day we really would have a wonderful portfolio, if we only took the time to make the effort to notice our thoughts and get into the habit of redirecting them where we want them to be.
If you have a low self-concept it means that what you think of yourself and what you think of yourself in regards to others comes from a place of lowliness. You feel that you are small, not good enough, unable, not deserving, not knowing, inadequate, rejected, and more. Now, what led you to feel this way? The only thing that led you to feel this way are the thoughts that you’ve been investing in for years and years. Therefore, it is not surprising that your return on investment is poor. Poor thinking habits equal poor concept of self and thus poor results in your physical world.
However, there is a remedy to this which is to start observing and redirecting your thoughts on a daily basis.
Consistency and Persistence is Key
But every moment of time you can have a most marvelous portfolio. And if they pass a dividend, it doesn’t matter. Devote every moment of your time to positive thinking – constructive thinking – by not accepting any rumor that doesn’t contribute to the fulfillment of your desire. No matter what it is – it could be the most obvious fact in the world – if it doesn’t contribute to the fulfillment of your dreams, don’t accept it. If you do, you’re spending.
No significant and permanent results happen overnight. Even your failures didn’t happen overnight, it happened because of continuous and persistent negative thoughts. Some of such thoughts are just about as old as you are. So, it is no surprise that it’s going to take some effort to notice, observe, and eliminate all the unwanted thoughts that are shaping your life right now. It can never be the other way around, though, you can’t expect to miraculously see positive results from the same mental diet and from the same thought pattern that manifested the unwanted in your life. The thought pattern has to change first if you want your life to reflect it. And here is the best way to do this.
- Observe your thoughts and write them down on a sheet of paper.
- Write the opposite of each one of those thoughts on a different sheet of paper.
- Destroy the sheet with the negative thoughts by burning it, as a psychological symbol of the destruction of those thoughts.
- Use your news list of contradicting and positive thoughts to create affirmations.
- Repeat those affirmations a few hundreds of times per day, until they replace your negative thoughts for good.
Trust me, this works. It’s worked for me and for so many others.
